I proud to be a Medical Laboratory Technologist

Once, I really want to be a nurse when I was a high school so I decided to choose a Nursing program on a college in Denpasar. I did the first step for the academic test and it was passed successfully. When I did the final test, unfortunately my height wasn’t enough so made me failed the final test back then. I felt so depressed and full of misfortune. I even blamed my own self for being a short girl. I had done a great effort, study harder than the others but why 148 cm make me failed? I just need 2 cm for pass the test. “you are unlucky girl” I said.

My momma was so worried about her daughter so she came to my room every night. She always said “Don’t too hard on yourself.” Yeah, she’s right. Maybe the God has another plan for me. The more beautiful plan I couldn’t imagine before. I believe that.

Accidentally, someone suggest me to searching more about Medical Laboratory Technologist and I was like “what is it?”

So... I spent my weekend in front of my PC, searching it through the Google. First, I found that the Medical Laboratory Technologist is about a person who wearing a whitecoat in a Laboratory just like a scientist. When I was looking the list of courses, I think that Bio-Chemistry, and Bio-Molecular will fit on me. After thinking thoughtfully, I made a decision. I choose a Medical Laboratory Technologist program. After passed all the test, finally the first day of lecture comes.

I’m wondering how did I feel the first day when I was looking around the biochemistry laboratory at the corner on my Lab College. I had a thought about how gorgeous if I was a Medical Laboratory Technologist soon. Being around with the samples, chemical, playing microscope every single time, stalking every bacterial, fungus, and the other micro creatures that make me so passionate about Biology and Chemistry.

Let me ask one thing, have you heard about a “Medical Laboratory Technologist”?

I think it sounds unfamiliar for most of you. Literally you will say “what is it?”

Medical Laboratory Technologist also known as MLT is a health care officer who collect your blood sample, perform a several test whenever you need a Laboratory testing to help your doctor diagnosing your illness. Me, as an MLT honestly feeling so grateful because I have such a hidden profession that saves lives. Without an MLT, we can’t discover the cause of several illness. Maybe some illness will show the same symptom that make our doctor need laboratory test result for diagnosing and giving the therapy.

I choose being a Medical Laboratory Technologist for a purpose.

“Discover the cause of the illness so the doctor can diagnose and give the best therapy for our patient”

Because you will never heal if you don’t know the cause of your illness.
